📖 Description

This post was inspired by the [AI safety distillation contest](https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/ei4pYFJKcbGAdGnNb/calling-for-student-submissions-ai-safety-distillation). It turned out to be more of a summary than a distillation for two reasons. Firstly, I think that the main idea behind ELK is simple and can be explained in less than 2 minutes (see next section). Therefore, the main value comes from understanding the specific approaches and how they interact with each other. Secondly, I think some people shy away from reading a 50-page report but I expect they could get most of the understanding from reading/skimming this summary (I'm aware that the summary is longer than anticipated but it's still a >5x reduction of the original content).
