p(Doom)1
Practice saving the world from deadly AI through bureaucracy
Free · Source available
Before you download: your OS will warn you, and that is expected. These builds are unsigned. Signing means buying a code-signing certificate (Windows) or an Apple Developer identity plus notarization (macOS). p(Doom)1 is an alpha made by one person and has not bought either yet, so every operating system reports that it cannot verify who made the program. The warnings mean “we cannot check the publisher”, not “this is malware”.
What you will see, and what to click — Windows, macOS, Linux
Extract the whole zip to a folder before running the game.
Running it from inside the zip viewer hides PDoom.pck, and the game
will not start. That is the single most common problem people hit.
Windows — SmartScreen. You will see a blue “Windows protected your PC” box, often naming an unknown / untrusted publisher. Click More info (the small link under the message), then Run anyway.
macOS — Gatekeeper. First launch is blocked. On
macOS 15 (Sequoia) and later, double-click the app once and dismiss
the warning — that refusal is what puts the option there —
then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security
and click Open Anyway. On macOS 14 and earlier you can
right-click (or Control-click) the app and choose Open. Full steps
are in HOW-TO-RUN.txt inside the zip.
Linux. You may need to set the executable bit:
chmod +x PDoom.x86_64.

The current build does not include a Mac version —
the macOS build broke in this release and a fix is written.

p(Doom)1 is raising money on Manifund
The game is free to download and stays that way. A pledge funds the work, not access to it — there is no licence, no early access and no reward tier attached to backing it.
It is all‑or‑nothing: unless the US$14,500 minimum is reached by 9 September 2026, the campaign does not fund. The full ask is US$48,000, and the proposal sets out what each line would pay for — a part‑time gameplay developer, a directed art pass by a human illustrator, hosting and infrastructure, open dataset maintenance, and partial recovery of Pip's time. Nobody has been hired, commissioned or engaged; every figure is conditional on the money arriving.
Read the proposal on Manifund →Opens manifund.org in a new tab. Manifund holds the money and shows the current total; this page deliberately does not repeat a figure that moves.

Quick FAQ
What is p(Doom)1?
A satirical strategy game about AI Safety. Manage AI labs, make policy decisions, and prevent catastrophic outcomes. Inspired by real AI Safety debates and research from aisafety.info.
Is it free? Is it open source?
Free: yes, completely, and that is not going to change during alpha. Open source: not yet, and it would be wrong to say otherwise. The source is public on GitHub and you are welcome to read it, evaluate it and contribute to it — but the current interim licence does not grant redistribution, and the art and game content are expected to stay all-rights-reserved. A proper open-source licence for the engine is planned around the 1.0 release. Windows and Linux are available — Windows is the tested one; Linux is experimental, so tell me what breaks. macOS — no build in the current release; it broke and a fix is written (what happened).
